BSN Application Phases
The BSN Application is open from Sept. 15-January 15.
There are two phases and they are described in more detail on this page.
Priority Application for Fall 2026 Admission Closes December 15, 2025
Qualifications for the Priority application phase:
- Applicants must earn a minimum overall TEAS score of 80% Advanced to be considered for priority admission.
- TEAS test date ranges for Fall 2026 Priority Admission: January 16, 2025-December 15, 2025.
- Only the first two attempts during this date range will be accepted and both attempts (if taken twice) must be uploaded to your NURSING CAS application as instructed.
- After Fall 2025, the applicant will have no more than 18 hours of pending and in progress courses to be completed by the end of Spring 2026. No Summer 2026 classes will be considered for this phase.
- Applicant is currently an active Texas State student or has already applied to Texas State for general admission, has been admitted by the priority phase deadline, and will be an active student during the Fall 2026 semester.
- Applicant must also earn a minimum science GPA of 3.4 and a minimum nursing GPA of 3.0 to be considered for priority admission.
If the applicant attempts to submit an application during the Priority Phase and DOES NOT meet the requirements listed above, the application will be automatically defaulted to the General Phase for review. GPAs and TEAS scores will not be rounded for consideration. In addition, applications missing Fall 2025 transcripts or prerequisites not in progress during Spring 2026 will also be defaulted to the General Phase.
Upon review of the priority applications, selected priority applicants will receive an email notification explaining the next steps in the admission review process. This email will be sent by the end of January.
General Application for Fall 2026 Admission Closes January 15, 2026
This application phase is for students needing additional time to complete their application or for those who do not meet priority requirements. Examples include:
- Applicant still needs time to do one or both final TEAS test attempts. Applicants must earn an overall TEAS score of 65% Proficient to be considered for General admission.
- TEAS test date ranges for Fall 2026 General Admission: January 16, 2025-January 15, 2026.
- Only the first two attempts during this date range will be accepted and both attempts (if taken twice) must be uploaded to your NURSING CAS application as instructed.
- Applicant was not admitted to Texas State University before the priority deadline and is not currently an active student. (i.e., Applicant needs time to submit final transcripts and finish the Texas State application, etc.)
- Applicant will have pending requirements and in progress courses (up to 18 hours total) for Spring AND Summer 2026.
- Applicant does not meet preferred minimum science GPA for priority admission and/or preferred minimum TEAS score for priority admission, but still meets overall minimum requirements.
- Applicant needs additional time to complete and submit the BSN application through NURSING CAS.
Upon review of the general applications, selected general applicants will receive an email notification explaining the next steps in the admission review process. This email will be sent by the end of February.
