Bobcat trail at Main campus in San Marcos

St David's School of Nursing is excited to announce the expansion of our traditional BSN Program to the Texas State University (TXST) San Marcos Campus! TXST has partnered with Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos to support this initiative. This partnership is part of TXST’s mission to create greater opportunities for our students and improve the health of our local community by positively impacting the number of Registered Nurses in the health care workforce.

The San Marcos program extension option is only available to currently enrolled TXST students. The first cohort of students was admitted to the San Marcos extension program in the Fall of 2025, and we will continue to grow this expansion. Santa Rosa hospital provides space for simulation laboratories, classrooms, and faculty office spaces, in addition to providing clinical placements for students to complete their non-specialty practicum courses.

BSN students admitted and assigned to the San Marcos campus will receive the same BSN curriculum delivered by Nursing faculty on-site in San Marcos. These students will also receive support from on-site simulation lab staff, with additional support from administrative staff on the Round Rock campus.

  • Simulated clinical experiences will be provided in the Christus Santa Rosa Hospital Simulation Lab, with some travel to the Round Rock campus for selected upper-level simulations.
  • Clinical placements will be primarily assigned in Christus Santa Rosa facilities in San Marcos, Kyle, New Braunfels, and San Antonio.
  •  Simulation and clinical experiences may be scheduled on day or evening shifts, so students should be prepared to be free to attend evening placements if so assigned.

All BSN students in San Marcos and Round Rock will gather in Round Rock for orientation and all full BSN cohort activities.

Mrs. Veronica Hughes has been named as the BSN San Marcos Extension Coordinator. Please reach out to her at tqv22@txstate.edu for more information or to answer questions about this exciting extension to our BSN program.
