At the completion of the BSN program, a graduate of the St. David’s School of Nursing at Texas State University will be able to:

  1. Utilize current and evolving evidence-based nursing knowledge, including a foundation in liberal arts and natural and social sciences in professional nursing practice.
  2. Provide safe, compassionate, holistic, individualized and effective person- and family-centered care.
  3. Facilitate health among individuals and populations, from disease prevention to health management, through collaboration with partners across all sectors for the improvement of equitable outcomes.
  4. Critique and apply scientific evidence to maintain best practice and improve patient outcomes.
  5. Apply established safety protocols and quality improvement principles to promote safety, optimize care, and minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance.
  6. Communicate and collaborate with interprofessional team members, patients, families, and communities fostering mutual respect and shared decision making to optimize care, enhance the healthcare experience, and improve outcomes.
  7. Coordinate resources to provide safe, high-quality, and cost-effective care to all populations.
  8. Utilize healthcare technologies and information systems to document care, retrieve patient data, support clinical decision making, and manage and improve the delivery of safe, high-quality care in accordance with best practice and professional and regulatory standards.
  9. Cultivate a professional identity by demonstrating accountability, integrity, civility, respect for the inherent dignity of individuals, and ethical behaviors that reflect nursing’s characteristics and values.
  10. Participate in activities and self-reflection that foster personal health, resilience, and well-being, contribute to lifelong learning, and support the development of nursing expertise and leadership abilities.
